The Gibson practice reed, while ideally suited to Gibson practice chanters, is also an excellent reed for other brands.
The blades are wide allowing for more air, thereby nearly eliminating the “shutting off” phenomenon.

I bought an extra just in case the one that came with my Gibson long practice chanter didn’t sound like I wanted it to. I was wrong, a little 220 grit sandpaper and it was perfect. But be warned Gibson makes a louder practice chanter reed. Sounds like a smallpipe reed, which I like.
